Air Insulated Busducts

As a premier manufacturer of power distribution solutions, we also specialize in high-performance Air Insulated Busduct (AIBD) systems. Designed for reliability, ease of maintenance, and superior thermal performance, our busducts provide a robust alternative to conventional cabling for industrial and commercial infrastructure.

Elins’ systems are engineered to ensure safe and efficient power transfer from transformers to main switchboards, and throughout rising mains in high-rise structures.

Design Excellence & Construction

Elins’ AIBD systems are characterized by a “bolt-on” design where conductors are spaced with specific air clearances, supported by high-creepage, non-hygroscopic insulators.

  • Enclosure: Available in high-grade Galvanized Steel for corrosion resistance and optimal heat dissipation.

  • Insulation Support: We utilize Class-F DMC/SMC molded insulators that provide exceptional mechanical strength to withstand high short-circuit faults.

  • Flexible Configuration: Available in 3-phase 3-wire, 4-wire, or 5-wire configurations with various IP ratings for indoor and outdoor installations.

Material Specialization: Aluminium & Copper

Elins offers customized solutions in both Aluminium and Copper to meet your specific project requirements and budget constraints.

Aluminium Conductor Busducts

  • Cost-Effective: The preferred choice for large-scale industrial projects requiring an economical power distribution backbone.

  • Lightweight Advantage: Reduces the structural load on building supports and simplifies the installation process.

  • Engineered Joints: We use specialized bi-metallic transitions and jointing compounds to ensure long-term conductivity and prevent oxidation.

Copper Conductor Busducts

  • Maximum Efficiency: Offers the lowest voltage drop and highest electrical conductivity, ideal for mission-critical facilities.

  • Compact Footprint: Copper’s superior current-carrying capacity allows for a smaller enclosure size, saving valuable space in electrical rooms.

  • Extreme Durability: Highly resistant to fatigue and corrosion, making it the gold standard for hospitals, data centers, and heavy-duty manufacturing.

Why Choose Elins’ Air insulated Busduct Systems?

  1. Safety First: Fully type-tested designs compliant with international standards.

  2. Thermal Management: Our air-gap design allows for natural convection, ensuring the system runs cooler even under peak loads.

  3. Low Maintenance: Easily accessible joints and modular sections allow for quick inspections and thermal imaging.

Our Busducts can be applied to different system configurations as shown below:

  • 3P3W
  • 3P3W+50%E
  • 3P4W
  • 3P4W+50%E
  • 3P4W+100%E
  • 3P4W(200%N)
  • 3P4W(200%N)+50%E

We also offer custom configuration options based on specific requirements.

Elins Busways conductors are made of high-density copper with 100%
IACS conductivity and a purity of >99.95% or 61% conductivity electrical-grade aluminium bars wrapped with polyester sheet or aramid paper. It is manufactured through an intricate process of sheet metal fabrication, polyester sheet/aramid paper slitting, forming and assembly. Optional specifications can be designed and fabricated to customer requirements.

Advantages of using Elins Busways conductors are:

  • High electrical conductivity
  • Low impurity
  • Excellent fatigue resistance
  • High thermal conductivity
  • High mechanical strength
  • Outstanding corrosion resistance

Illustration of Busduct Insulation

Elins Busways BUSDUCT System provides Class F – 155°C class of insulation and it is water resistant with high mechanical strength. It has been tested in accordance with the IEC 61439-6 standard.

The specialised insulation process offers the following performance advantages:

  • Engineered to withstand electrical glitches and voltage spikes
  • Designed to accommodate thermal expansion and contraction during peak and        off-peak load cycles
  • Resilient to sudden heat shock, ensuring long-term stability
  • High reliability under static and continuous operating conditions
  • Excellent mechanical strength, providing superior impact resistance
  • High thermal conductivity for efficient heat dissipation and performance consistency.

OTHER INSULATION TYPES:

Based on customer requirement, we also offer:

  • Class B-II Insulation – Engineered with two layers of Polyester Film(Mylar), ensuring reliable thermal resistance up to 130°C for enhanced safety and durability.
  • Fire-Rated Insulation – Designed for extreme fire protection, combining one layer of Polyester Film(Mylar) and two layers of Mica (Mineral Silicate Sheet) to withstand temperatures up to 900°C, ensuring superior fire resistance and system integrity.

Joint System Assembly

Designed to perform reliably even in the toughest installation environments, the Elins Busways Joint Block is precision-engineered and manufactured using premium materials and advanced production processes. Its robust construction minimizes potential issues during installation and operation, ensuring seamless performance and long term system stability.

This specialised design offers the following outstanding benefits:

  • Built-in thermal expansion capability in every joint to accommodate temperature-induced movement
  • ±15 mm lateral adjustment (30 mm total) to compensate for on-site measurement deviations
  • ±5° tilt allowance (10° total along a single axis) for alignment flexibility during installation
  • High-tensile bolt and shear-nut options available in steel, galvanised steel, or chromed black finish
  • Ingress protection options of IP40 / IP54 / IP66 to suit varied installation environments
  • Easy installation and removal of any joint without disturbing adjacent busduct sections
  • Water- and chemical-resistant BMC insulation plates for enhanced durability and safety

Tap-off units equipped with Moulded Case Circuit Breakers (MCCBs) or fused-switch breakers are available in various current ratings to suit a wide range of installations. Each 3-meter busduct can accommodate up to four tap-off units per side, allowing a maximum of eight plug-in units per section, subject to MCCB rating.

For enhanced safety, all tap-off units feature an interlocking mechanism that prevents:

  • Removal while the unit is switched “On.”
  • Additionally, the MCCB cannot be turned on when the tap-off unit cover is open, ensuring safe operation and maintenance.

The Continuous Busduct Monitoring System (CBMS) is an advanced technology designed for real-time temperature monitoring and automatic anomaly detection in Busduct systems. It features Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS), an optic fiber cable, and computer software, enabling real time temperature measurement across the entire Busduct system, up to 10 kms.
